“Good taste in dress has an international language of its own…” (Christian Dior on collaborating with Lyle and Scott) 1
Throughout our history, we’ve become the go-to brand for fashion-conscious golfers and we’ve collaborated with some of the biggest designers in the world, from Michael Kors to Junya Watanabe.
Our latest link-up, as featured on HYPEBEAST 2, is with the Japanese golf collective, Golfickers – combining our illustrious history of creating high-quality menswear and golf apparel with Golfickers’ love of golf and desire to create positive change through the game.
Who are Golfickers?
Golfickers, who formed in 2018, are a team of Tokyo-based creatives, including art directors, photographers, designers and stylists, who share a passion and love of golf, just like us.
The group takes their name from the Graphickers, a counter-culture music and design movement who were active in 1990s Tokyo.
Why did we collaborate?
Golfickers’ vision that golf can transform an ugly duckling into a soaring eagle resonated with us – after all, our Golden Eagle logo was inspired by the famous Gleneagles golf course. When we found out the Golfickers dream is “to be an eagle”, the collaboration between the ugly duckling and golden eagle took flight…
Our Brand Director, Ben Gunn, sums up our golfwear collaboration as being “about old and new audiences, creating something that cuts through all the noise in the market to stand out and create a moment that gets people to stop and think”. Takuya Nakashiro, Golfickers Co-Founder, recalls being familiar with our golf apparel from an early age: “The clothes that my father proudly showed me when I was a kid were very elegant”.
Nakashiro compares the logo that adorns our clothing to an Eagle gliding gracefully over the sky, adding that with close collaboration like this, we can “see the world from a high sky together”.
Our golfwear partnership is symbolised by the joint logo, which features elements of Lyle and Scott’s and Golfickers’ classic branding – combining Golfickers’ buggy motif with our signature eagle and 1874 founding date.
What can you expect from the collaboration?
The collection is made up of seven premium menswear pieces, including signature Lyle and Scott pieces like knitwear, jackets, and T-shirts.
The collaboration is inspired by, and pays homage to, golf apparel from our past, but is made for the golfer of today – someone who wants an alternative to the technical, performance-based pieces currently available.
With knitwear being such a big part of our history, it’s only right that knitted jumpers and cardigans are a focus of the Golfickers collaboration. Our Head of Golf, Chris Somerton, explains: “Classic pieces, like the knitted cardigan, are key. We wanted these to be more conservative and understated, so they feature contrast tipping on the placket and cuffs, which gives the cardigan a collegiate feel”.
